Pamper Day at the Crew Club

21st November from 10am to 3pm

The Crew Club, run by MBE award-winning winner youth team, Darren and Lorraine Snow, offered a space for the Active LightWorks therapists, who introduced therapies and provided free treatments for young parents of the area. The therapies will include Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Energy therapy and Shiatsu.

Below is the feedback for the day which was very clearly a success!

It went very well. After a slow start, plenty of people came in the end...

The team did around 38 treatments, possibly more because when some of the women had several, they sometimes just recorded the first one alone and not the others. Clara, Barbara, Elena, Veronica, Jerusa and Claire were totally brilliant, worked really, really hard, and were a fantastic group to be with. I stayed all through the day too in the end, not doing any treatments apart from one visualisation, but listening to lots of people, explaining about the treatments, introducing them to the therapists, and making cups of tea etc.

All the women loved every single one of their treatments.

* Several of the Crew Club mothers had never had a complementary therapy treatment before;
* Some had never heard of any of the therapies - and many others, if they had heard of them vaguely,
did not know what they were.
* Over half were single parents
* Many had long-standing health problems, or were long term (very) stressed.

What next?
E-mailing Lorraine tonight, and summarising the Feedback forms’; information, though she has the originals she is so busy this may be useful to her. She wants to meet with us next week to discuss where to go from here, but seemed v pleased with the day and had a  great shiatsu treatment herself with Clare, after which she looked a lot less tired!

Summary from 38 feedback forms

Which therapies were most popular at Crew Club?
Many of the women had more than one treatment, some had as many as 3.

2nd ......Reiki / Energy Therapy   (8)
3rd....Reflexology (7)
4th.... Aromatherapy  (6)

"Complementary Therapies in the NHS"

Kristine Walker gave a talk to the Myeloma Support Group at the Audrey Emmerton Building, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton on June 26th. About 45 people attended including hospital staff. The 30 minute talk was entitled 'Complementary Therapies in the NHS' and included the role of Active LightWorks at the hospital. It followed a briefing entitled 'How to Analyse your Blood Test Results' and added a lighter note to the proceedings. The talk was well received and at the reception that followed (with lovely sandwiches and cakes) Two specialist doctors expressed an interest in receiving complementary treatment. Our thanks to the staff nurse in charge of the proceedings that evening, and Kerry Gibson who set up the group and invited Kristine to speak, and their kind donation to Active LightWorks.
