Welcome
to the Active LightWorks team

BARBARA
I
am actively committed to Active LightWorks current project
as the Team coordinator and liason officer to the Children's
Royal Sussex County Hospital in making this vision possible
With
Active Light Works, I am actively providing aromatherapy
treatments to the staff at the Royal Sussex County Hospital
cancer unit; and am team coordinator for the development
of a new ALW community clinic right opposite the hospital.
Its purpose is to offer low cost complementary therapies
to patients affected by serious illnesses, but also to their
carers and relatives, because we believe that regular holistic
treatments can help greatly to improve quality of life,
and support the alleviation of pain, stress and suffering.
I joined ALW as a reflexologist and aromatherapists in 2007
with great enthusiasm, and I strongly support the charity
for its humanitarianism, and community spirit. Since then
I have been involved in several projects there, and taken
part in many fundraising events.
I have always had an interest in alternative medicine and
I often used it throughout my life. My father is one of
the main reasons why I became a holistic therapist committed
to work with patients with serious illnesses. When he died
of cancer at a digestive disease ward in Italy, I knew very
little about the benefits complementary therapies could
bring to people with serious illnesses. But when I came
to Brighton to study holistic therapies, by complete co
incidence, I ended up volunteering on the digestive disease
ward at Brighton County - and knew I was in the right path.
I believe that integrating complementary medicine
alongside solidly orthodox methods of diagnosis and treatment
may bring a more holistic approach to prevention and cure
of illnesses. Stress is thought to be he cause for 75% of
today’s diseases, yet it can be reduced by promoting
complementary therapies to the public, together with a more
balanced diet, exercise and relaxation techniques.
At
present, I work for Lewes & Wealden District council
as a mobile massage therapist treating elderly people in
their own homes; besides having a practice at the Equilibrium
natural health clinic in Lewes, and my own private mobile
holistic therapies service which works with clients all
over Sussex.
