Training workshops for Carers
Last year for the first time we started running small workshops in simple massage techniques for carers, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society.
We delivered 7 workshops to 50 people, which were really well-received. For many carers, learning these basic techniques gives them a wonderful new way of communicating with their loved ones through touch.
We’ll be running more of these through 2014.
We’d like to say a big thank you to Janis Simmonds, the Alzheimer’s Society project manager, for this opportunity.
Training for therapists
In the last year we ran a session in dementia awareness, provided by the Alzheimer’s Society and Peer Action also ran a session for us on Hepatitis-C awareness.
Finally, we used some of our Lottery funding to run a course in specialist massage techniques for people with dementia, with renowned expert Nicole Mitchell, which contributed CPD points to those therapists in attendance. We had so much great feedback after the event that we’re hoping to ask Nicole back later in the year.
The Trustees remain committed to offering training that is relevant to the projects we run through 2014.
